i decided to get back into my shop even though i'm still trying to move,, so first just to get my feet wet I thought i would build a dulcimer... Its been a year since the first and I forgot alot, but its coming out good... I'm just makeing it harder on myself then it should be.. Its all walnut from a board a friend gave me... Next week I am going to resaw some more to start an OM, I plan or pore sealing with system 3 and FP for finish. I'll post more when its completed in a week or so.. Mike |

Doncha just love working with walnut? I'm not an expert on Dulcimers (living in a part of the world where they just don't exist) but it looks good!! |

Very nice. I've been meaning to build one of those, but just can't find the time. So I'm letting the wood season, yeah, that's the ticket. ![]() |

Fantastic!!! I was at a craft fair recently, and had a long chat with a Harp and duclimer maker who was exhibiting there...he had made a BEAUTIFUL hammer dulcimer...Colin S would have loved it, with the intricately carved soundholes...I must admit, I have never seen a dulcimer before until now...HOW MANY TUNING PEGS ARE THERE!!??!?! He was demonstrating how he could create different tones with different wood hammers...amazing stuff. He only lives a few miles down the road... |

thanks for the compliments, Martin, yes the walnut was a pleasure to bend,,my other one was flame maple and I did that one on a pipe. It was tougher.. this one i bent with a blanket, and it just sort of melted in. Jim, I have the same excuse for why I haven't built a guitar yet,,, The wood is seasoning, but well its been sittin there for 3 years,, I guess its time.. ![]() Sam, I have seen mountain dulcimers with 3,4 or 5 strings.. this one will have 4,,like my first.. Hi Mike Nice looking dulcimer, I know how it is you got to build something. I've built a few of those over the years, but always with spruce soundboards. Lets us know how it sounds when you get it done. Please. Tom |

Awesome Mike I want to tackle one some day. Watched a build on DYI Handmade Music once - looks like a real fun project. |

Tom, i expect it to sound mellower then my other one which was maple. I would like to try one with a spruce soundboard one day, i have heard they have more of a guitar sound...Hmmm wonder why ![]() Rich,, thats where I first saw one built also.. I sort of followed their method, but changed a few things and made some jigs along the way... I actually put the show on a dvd, in a chaptered format..sort of a "how to" video. Mike |

Mike, I've built a few of those over the years. They are a lot of fun. My last was a six-string (3 pairs) made of walnut with a cherry top. Nice job on yours! |

Mike Yes I bind dulcimer soundboards and the back. No I do not brace the spruce. I have not built one in about 15yrs. Still have some material for a few and my patterns. So maybe I build a few more some day. There fun. Tom |
